'Sentiments of Youth'

 Digital prints

This piece, 'Sentiments of Youth' explores the experiences and feelings associated with youth and growing up. It pairs conceptual white toned self portraits - that represent ideas of conformity to social expectations of personality, body image and internalised hiding behind masks and false identities, and breaking free the 'skin' that conceals the true self - with colourful conceptual documentations of adolescence - examining ideas of relationships, love, gender expectation, memory, place and time evoking a sense of nostalgia, longing and appreciation of the time spent being young. Digital distortion of some of the images convey how all of these experiences become twisted, warped and falsified in your mind - resulting in a feeling of confusion and being overwhelmed that makes it difficult to decipher who you actually are and what your identity is. In presenting these images in a scattered arrangement in varying sizes, with some images printed on translucent film to overlap the photos, the idea that the multitude of experiences and feelings of youth intertwine and influence one another to create the whole image of what it is like to be a young person.
