Junior School - Design Technology Studies

Food Technology is a study of food, including nutrition, hygiene, safety and the environment.

Students will study the social and environmental implications of food, and choose and use equipment and processes appropriate for the setting and requirements.

Students will investigate, design, produce and evaluate food and menu items.

Students will be involved in cutting, fusing, slumping and the casting of glass to produce a range of pieces.

They will investigate, design, produce and evaluate a range of designs and production methods.

Students will be assessed on work produced, sketch book and a written project on visual analysis and response to glass art.

This course will introduce students to skills, techniques and processes used in working with metals and related materials. 

Students will be encouraged to experience and explore the properties and characteristics of metals using a variety of tools, equipment and processes. They will develop their skills and understanding through such things as investigating, designing, planning, heat treating, fabricating and reflecting on their progress. There will be an emphasis on the design process, the appropriate and safe use of tools and the quality of production.

This course will introduce students to skills, techniques and processes used in working with textiles and related materials.

Students will produce textile articles and clothing used in everyday life, using a wide range of techniques, processes and design options. Safety will be emphasised, and students will investigate characteristics of fabrics and fibres.

Students will learn about safety, care and maintenance of tools. They will design, plan and develop techniques in shaping, construction, basic joinery and finishing.
