This course is an introduction to techniques for producing ceramic sculpture. By engaging with the course work students will be producing both functional and sculptural pieces, some works will sit in both catergories.
Hand modelling techniques and skills will be experimented with and utilised to produce a collection of works. The developmental folio of each student documents ideas and plans through exploratory sketches. The act of constructing these works in three dimensions has students utilising a wide range of hand modelling techniques.
The course work also provides opportunities for experimention with glazing and other surface treatments. By enagaging with the course students will see their work go through the kiln firing process and thereby expand their knowledge of the technical aspects of this art form.
