Proposed 2024 Year 10 Science subjects:
This course aims to prepare students who are interested in doing VCE Biology, Chemistry and or Physics by covering theory for each of the three subject areas. You will also participate in Extended Experimental Investigations where you will experience developing your own questions/inquiries and then design and perform your own experiments.
This course will explore the fascinating world of marine and terrestrial biology. Through field work, experiments and excursions you will learn about biodiversity, adaptations of organisms to their environments, the impact of human activities and how we can conserve these fragile ecosystems both on land and in the water.
Step into the front-line of the fight against climate change! In this subject you will become equipped with scientific knowledge to understand the causes and impacts of climate change. Importantly, through a range of activities, discussions and experiments you will explore solutions to climate change, with a focus on the latest research and technologies, and gain an understanding the positive changes we can make at a local and global scale.
Get inside the head of a serial killer and understand what makes them tick. This course will cover the science behind criminals; why people commit crimes and how police are able to use technology to catch them.
Understand the psychology of human interaction- why do we behave the way we do? This course will cover different aspects of social psychology, such as emotion, attraction and motivation as well as the importance of sleep.
What will the future hold? How is Chemistry connected to innovation in addressing contemporary challenges? Chemical science will play a part in solving challenges in health, energy and climate change, water and food production. This elective will endeavour to investigate the design of chemical products and processes that are related to these challenges. Students will apply chemical knowledge, scientific skills, and critical and creative thinking to investigate and analyse modern chemistry-related issues and communicate their views from an informed position.
A deep dive into disease, genetic engineering, forensics, and evolution. Learn how to hack the DNA code, bring back the dinosaurs, cure cancer, and more! A great primer for a future in medicine or biology.
If you want to understand what the Universe is, how it began, evolved, and will eventually end, astrophysics is the only way to go. If you are blown away by the concept of every single thing in the entire universe sitting inside a space the size of a grapefruit .. before protons, neutrons and electrons even existed ... then this course is for you. The course ponders the big questions:
- Is the Universe eternal, or did it come into existence at some point? If so, how old is it?
- Is space truly infinite, or is there a limit to how far we can go, what determines that limit?
- What makes up the Universe, and how many stars and galaxies could we see?
- Where did the Universe come from, what is it like today, how did it get to be that way, and what is its ultimate fate?
In this course you'll master the art of using the computer language JavaScript to create innovative and exciting apps, games, and animations. Take control of a robot and witness the power of your coding skills firsthand, while also gaining invaluable knowledge in 3D printing and electronics.
