What is it and why should I do it?

Visual Communication Design is the art and practice of communicating visually. In this subject you will explore Environmental Design, Product Design & Communication Design. You will engage in the design process to produce creative solutions that respond to design briefs.

What will I do in class?

This subject involves work on practical design tasks and investigation/analysis on factors that impact design decisions.

You will work on 3 projects using both hand drawing and digital design tools.

  1. Environmental Design: designing a studio apartment. You will make design decisions about how to create functional space within a confined space. Students will develop an architectural floor plan, side view elevations and rendering.
  2. Product Design: designing a piece of furniture for your studio apartment using isometric drawing conventions, and a variety of rending techniques to add visual texture to your image.
  3. Communication Design: creating typography solutions to a design challenge.

How do I satisfactorily complete this unit?

All folio and design analysis work will be completed productively during class time. Students will use home time to allow for thinking and pondering of various design considerations for your projects, therefore no set home work if students work productively and effectively during class time.
