What is it and why should I do it?

Year 10 French is all about continuing on your great journey to becoming a proficient French speaker! Along the way you will also further explore French culture, lifestyle, traditions and learn more about the Francophone world.

What will I do in class?

Through a variety of text types you will explore the following:

Term 1:

Unit 1:  Les jeunes Francophones (Young Francophones)

  • Find out about the French speaking world, exchange personal information
  • Revise the present tense of regular verbs
  • Talk about technology and the Internet
  • Cognates
  • Use of some irregular verbs
  • Talk about/describe friends and family
  • Use adjectives with the correct agreement
  • Discuss relationships, talk about aspects of daily life
  • Use of reflexive verbs

 

Unit 2: Bienvenue a Paris (Welcome to Paris!)

  • Find out about some Paris sights, describe places if interest
  • Find out about places to visit in Paris, understand tourist information
  • Talk about what you have done
  • Use the perfect tense of avoir
  • Say what has happened and what you have done
  • Use the perfect tense with Etre
  • Find out about the Paris metro, understand information about travel
  • Describe a recent events, give opinions

 

Term 2:

Unit 3: Ca me passione (My passions)

  • Talk about leisure activities, use some expressions of time
  • Talk about when you were younger
  • Recognise and use the Imperfect tense
  • Use the imperfect to compare past and present
  • Say how life has changed
  • Use comparitives of adjectives
  • Talk about TV, cinema and books
  • Learn about some famous French people

 

Unit 6: Bonjour le Quebec (Hello Quebec!)

  • Find out about Quebec in Canada
  • Use superlative adjectives
  • Find out about Montreal, talk about your town and region
  • Object pronouns me, te, nous, vous
  • Asking for information at a tourist office, recommend places to see and things to do
  • Use of the verb devoir
  • Say what can and should be done to protect the environment
  • Use il faut and il ne faut pas

 

Unit 4 : Au travail (At work)

  • Understand information about school life in France, describe your school and typical school day
  • Discuss school subjects, say what is (not) going to happen
  • Use aller + infinitive
  • Discuss plans for the next school year
  • Discuss aspects of school life
  • Use different forms of the negative
  • Talk about different careers
  • Talk about jobs (masculine/feminine versions)
  • Talk about the past, the present and the future

 

Term 3:

Unit 7: En Forme (Fitness)

  • Discuss healthy lifestyles and fitness
  • Use adverbs
  • Talk about healthy eating
  • Use the imperative
  • Talk about problems
  • Use reflexives in the perfect tense
  • Identify parts of the body, discuss problems
  • Use expressions with avoir
  • Use depuis in the present tense
  • Asking for advice at the Chemist, talk about going to the Doctor
  • Working out the gender of a noun


Unit 8: Vive les vacances (Long live the holidays!)

  • Understand holiday information
  • Use relative pronouns qui and que
  • Talk about holiday plans, revise countries
  • Talk about holiday accommodation, enquire about campsites and youth hostels
  • Discuss what to take on holiday
  • Direct and indirect object pronouns

How will I be assessed?

Classroom participation, completion of classroom activities and satisfactory completion of unit assessment tasks (listening, speaking, reading and writing skills)
