What is it and why should I do it?

Middle School Physical Education provides students with the opportunity to learn about the human body, create training programs and also engage in physical activity on a weekly basis. This blend of practical and theory based study is closely aligned with Physical Education at the VCE level and gives students a strong base of knowledge for future study. Students who choose this subject will have opportunities to not only be active on a regular basis, but also explore how the body works and experience the impact of individual training programs. Students are expected to wear appropriate clothing, participate in practical classes, work cooperatively, satisfactorily complete theoretical and practical assessment.

What will I do in class?

Practical

  • Two teams sports (outside of the normal offerings) negotiated by the students and teacher.
  • Fitness testing
  • Individual Training Programs

Students will develop motor skills, understand rules, strategies and techniques, develop positive attitudes towards health and fitness. Students will also design and complete an individual training program based of fitness testing results.

Theory

Areas covered in class are; functions of skeletal and muscular systems, major muscles and bones, connective tissue, anatomical movements, types of joints, muscle types and structure, bone types and structure, muscular contractions and muscle fibre types.

Students will also explore training methods and principles to help shape their individual training program.
