What is it and why should I do it?

Paint is a subject that is designed to introduce you to various painting techniques and develop your skills in creating visual art using different mediums and styles. Throughout the unit, you will engage in hands-on activities, learn about the history of painting, study famous artists, and gain a deeper understanding of the principles and elements of art.  You will be encouraged to express your creativity, take risks, and explore your own artistic voice while also developing technical proficiency and a deeper appreciation for the art of painting.

What will I do in class?

You will complete an appropriation folio and a self-directed artwork in this class.  Each of these assessments are broken into multiple learning tasks.  This involves different activities such as:

  • exploring, responding and analysing the work of different artists and art movements
  • studying the art elements and principles
  • experimenting with different painting mediums
  • practicing colour mixing and palette creation
  • developing brushwork and texture
  • producing artworks
  • engaging in peer critiques and class discussions
