2021 Studio Arts
| Hugo EvansMy artworks are an exploration of the impacts of major current events across the world over the last two years, more specifically the world’s reaction to the global lockdowns and how it felt to be part of a major historical event. The first artwork focusing on the shared experience and the second more individual. Through a long process of learning to use Adobe Premiere with no prior experience, I made use of a mixture of digital and traditional materials to create the effect of digital objects like photos and videos having physical properties. Resources includes pieces from the film Akira (1988) Mario-kart (2005) and photography by Josh Rountos Charlie StewartMy Untitled artwork is a sound and visual piece. The sound component is a somewhat experimental electronic music piece that flows through noticeable sections roughly every forty seconds. The visual aspect of the artwork is to provide an observable presentation of the music in a method called Graphic Notation. Graphic Notation is an alternative to conventional western music notation where application of abstract shapes, colour and letters among other symbols are used to create a visual depiction of the sound and its instruments. One of the ways the Graphic Notation represents the song is by use of changing watercolour hue to help capture the change in intensity the song embodies as it draws closer to its technicolour conclusion. I wanted a sense of ambiguity to be perceivable from the work, so there’s no explicit emotions that should be perceived, I want it to range from individual to individual. |
