What is it and why should I do it?

Health and Human Development is a unit of work that is really all about you. Well the focus of the course is Youth health and wellbeing. The topics we will look at include, understanding health and wellbeing, nutrition and health, youth health issues. We also look at developmental transitions and the health care system in Australia. Many of the topics we cover seem logical, relevant and easy to understand. The trick however in doing well in Health and Human Development is developing the skills to critically analyse information and data to make informed observations. This is a subject for students interested in their own health, Australia’s health and how we compare to other countries.

What will I do in class?

Classes in year 11 are mostly about applying the knowledge you have learnt. To do this you will be expected to work collaboratively with other students in the class. This often means small group activities. You are expected to complete weekly readings and summaries as homework in order to take full advantage of class time.

How much homework will I have?

You will have homework every week. This will mostly be through completing readings and activities. Sometimes these are textbook questions and sometimes the questions will be set by your teacher. You are also expected to study, this means go over your weekly tasks/topics, so that you are prepared for your sacs and tests.

How do I satisfactorily complete the unit?

You will need to satisfactorily complete the unit outcomes. There are 3 outcomes for Unit 1 and 2 for Unit 2. By completing each of the outcomes you will have demonstrated the skills required through class activities and assessments. Class work is submitted in order to demonstrate your understanding of each outcome. This year students have completed the following sacs for Unit 1:  Case Study, Short Answer test, Investigation Project and an exam.
