Outdoor Education provides students with the skills and knowledge to safely participate in activities in outdoor environments and to respect and value diverse environments. The blend of direct practical experience of outdoor environments with theory-based study enables informed understanding of human relationships with nature. This subject will be based on knowledge and skills developed in VCE Outdoor and Recreational studies. Outdoor Education is a hands-on subject where we prioritise getting outside and exploring the nature around us.
This class will have a blend of practical and theory classes. There will be one theory session a week will focus on knowledge and skills needed to safely participate in the outdoors as well as explore many different outdoor environments. Our practical sessions will take up the majority of our class time and will be made up of school based activities such as trangia stove licence, tent set up/ pack up, orienteering and team building activities as well as a range of short or day excursions. Excursions include but not limited to surf lessons at URBNSURF, rock climbing, ice skating and walking tracks to national and local parks. These classes are done in preparation for our end of year Outdoor Education Camp at our Mirambah campus.
