Year 10 Standard Maths is the standard Victorian Curriculum Maths course undertaken in Victorian schools.  This subject prepares students for semester 2 Year 10 General Primer and leads onto Year 11 General Maths. Topics such as Algebra, Measurement, Trigonometry and Linear Relations will be covered.

This subject is recommended for students with a Year 9 Maths test average of over 50%.

What will I do in class?

In most classes a new mathematical concept will be introduced and you will have time to discuss this and work through examples with your teacher and class mates. You will have some time to work on practise problems in class while asking your teacher for assistance. Most of the essential practise exercise work will need to be completed for homework. You would have at least 20 minutes of homework on each night you have maths class, with more over the weekend and leading up to assessments.

How do I satisfactorily complete the unit?

To gain an S  you need to demonstrate that you have met the Outcomes. In 10 Standard Maths, the outcomes all involve being able to apply the mathematics studied in the course; in routine situations, in more complex application problems and using technology (your CAS calculator).

You will meet the Outcomes through your results on topic tests for each topic (4-5 topic tests per Unit, one about every 3-4 weeks), participation in class discussions, and completion of coursework.

Outcome 1: Demonstrates skills in carrying out routine questions accurately and recalling concepts readily.

Outcome 2: Demonstrates the ability to problem solve by interpreting, formulating, modelling, and investigating problems.

Outcome 3: Demonstrates the appropriate and efficient use of the computer algebra system (CAS) and communicates solutions effectively.
