What is it and why should I do it?

In Media: Film you are introduced to a variety of media concepts so that you are able to analyse films and produce your own.  The focus of this class is the cinematic representation of teenagers. We learn about and examine how media codes are used to construct the social values, beliefs, and identities of teenage characters in film.

What will I do in class?

In this class you will complete a series of learning activities that focus on:

• media codes
• media contexts
• media audiences
• genre conventions
• stages of the media production process (pre-production, production, post-production)
• roles within the media production process (director, scriptwriter, story-board artist, cinematographer, etc)
• media production skills (cinematography, lighting, editing, etc)

You will use the knowledge gained from these activities to complete film analysis assessments and production of your own short film

How do I satisfactorily complete the unit?

Students satisfy the learning requirements in Media: Film by:

• completing classwork activities
• composing film analyses (you will watch movies in this class and analyse them using knowledge gained from classroom activities.)
• producing a short film  (you will also work in a small team to make a short film about a teenagers's experiences in this class. This involves drafting a screenplay, illustrating storyboards, as well as filming, editing and screening the final film.)
