The following Maths subjects are offered to Year 10 students:

PHSC provides a list of recommendations for student maths pathways from Year 9 through to VCE based on their level of achievement in their current class. These recommendations are based on teacher observations and student work and indicate the teacher’s view of likely success. 

Semester One Course Descriptions:

Year 10 Standard Maths

This course is the standard Victorian Curriculum Maths course undertaken in Victorian schools. It covers Linear Equations and Relations, Measurement, Pythagoras's Theorem and Trigonometry.

Year 10 Plus Maths    

This course is similar to the standard Victorian Curriculum Maths, however it covers some topics in more depth and moves at a faster pace. The course covers Linear Equations and Relations, Trigonometry (including Circular Functions), Indices and Surds

VM Numeracy    

Students planning to complete the Vocational Major, or students who do not wish to complete any VCE Mathematics subjects may apply to complete Units 1&2 Numeracy in Year 10. VM Numeracy will continue through semester 2. 

Semester Two Course Descriptions:

Maths Methods Primer

This subject prepares students for Unit 1&2 Mathematical Methods, and Unit 1&2 Specialist Maths.  Topics covered include Quadratic Equations, Parabolas, Cubics, Exponential and Logarithmic Relations.

General Maths Primer

This subject prepares students for Unit 1&2 General Maths.  Topics covered include Descriptive Statistics, Bivariate data, Financial Maths, Matrices and Networks.
