Art is a subject that guides you in the development of a personally significant year long annotated folio that results in the production of completed artworks that reflect your thinking and skill development in both Units 3&4. In Unit 3, ideas and inspirations are explored that will then continue to evolve and develop into a fully resolved and finished body of work. This curriculum encourages personal thinking and investigation into technical applications that best express your ideas. Each week 3 periods are devoted to your folio and art making.
One period in the week is focussed on discussion sessions, these note-taking classes lead up to the completion of your final written assessment for the unit. Unit 3 discussions cover the comparison of art from the past to art of the present, highlighting cultural shifts as well as noted changes in approaches to art making. The unit 4 analysis task covers responses to the art of a key contemporary artist. Our analysis work is based on perspectives on the art as discussed in a range of reviews, interviews, online journals and articles.
All Unit 3 and 4 subjects require 3-5 hours of study per week.
Towards the end of each unit, students will be required to complete their analytical essays for homework prior to sitting the SAC.
The completion of final artworks for each unit will also require additional time outside of regular classes.
Outcome 1: The Unit 3 'Interpreting Art' SAC and the Unit 4 'Discussing Art' SAC are both assessed for a score out of 30.
Each SAC score makes up 10% of the total study score for Art.
Outcome 2: The Art SAT (annotated folio and completed artworks) is assessed for a score out of 50 at the end of unit 3 and at the end of unit 4.
A final combined unit 3&4 SAT score makes up 50% of your total study score for Art.
The end of year externally assessed VCE Art Exam contributes 30% to your final study score for Art.
To pass any VCE unit you need to demonstrate that you have met the Outcomes.
