Anxiety

120 cm x 80 cm

Unstretched and Unrimed canvas, acrylic paint

The piece ‘Anxiety’ was heavily inspired by teenage mental health and the Abstract Expressionist movement, I wanted to capture anxiety within a painting, as well as the stress and depression that accompanies it. This artwork was created using Acrylic paint, heavily watered down and slathered onto unprimed and unstretched canvas. It took place over 2-3 days, this was due to the drying of the paint, which is very important to add depth to the painting as I’m adding layers. The colours I used, I found after lots of experimentation, best capture the feeling of anxiety. And I am very happy with the result as this piece resonates very deeply with me as someone who suffers from chronic anxiety. It was very relieving painting my feelings onto a canvas and I feel like that in itself is what allowed for this piece to express so much.
