Drama is for people who love performing and writing and devising their own scripts. In Unit 3 you will devise, script, rehearse, refine, perform and reflect on an ensemble performance you create in groups based on a topic that your teacher gives you. In Unit 4 you will create your own Solo performance form a list published annually by VCAA. The solo performance is your end of year exam and is assessed externally by a panel of assessors at Melbourne Polytechnic in Preston.
You will also see one or more professional performances that will be the SAC for Outcome 3 as well as writing on one play for each semester in the end of year written exam.
All Unit 3 and 4 subjects require 3-5 hours of study per week.
You will be researching ideas for your ensemble performance, preparing notes for production meetings, script writing, preparing responses to plays we see as a class, preparing a class oral presentation on the development of your ideas for Outcome 1 in both units as well as learning lines, sourcing costumes, set, props and other materials needed for your performances. There will be after school rehearsals and excursions to the theatre either in class time or in the evening.
