What is it and why should I do it?

VCE French is the study of the French language and culture whilst developing the skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and viewing. It is recommended for students who enjoy language learning.

VCE French requires communication in French in a variety of situations and for multiple purposes. These purposes include discussion, exchanging information, writing in different text types and interpreting from one language to another. Lessons are instructed in the target language.

Students will study two prescribed themes.

The French speaking communities (Historical Perspectives: La Deuxieme Guerre Mondiale et La Resistance; Global and contemporary society: L'immigration et le Racisme en France)

The world around us (Global and contemporary society: L'Environnement; Global and contemporary society: Les associations caritatives; Communication and media + Technology and science: Les Medias et la Technologie)

How much homework/study will I have?

All Unit 3 and 4 subjects require 3-5 hours of study per week.

You would have at least 45 minutes of homework on each night you have French class, with more over the weekend and leading up to assessments. Students are encouraged to practise essential language skills including listening ( from past VCAA exams), viewing (Youtube clips),  reading (French news articles, writing ( essays/answers to questions/summaries/letters/presentations/reports/grammar and vocabulary exercises) and ICT-based language learning.
