- Music: Creativity in performance
This is an extension* to Year 9 Music: Performance, where students change their focus to creativity in performance, with an emphasis on improvisation. Students will continue to develop their ensemble skills with a focus on non-verbal cues, as well as rehearsal management and structuring/arranging music to suit how their band wants to interpret selected works.
*However, students can take this subject regardless of whether they have completed Year 9 Music: Performance.
- Group performance focus
- End of semester gig at external venue performing 4 - 6 works
- Approaches to improvisation and embellishment (creative folio)
- Live performance analysis
- Music across time and place
Emphasis on music creation and the preserving of music via recordings. Students can work in small group or individual settings to develop a folio of musical recordings that will include covers of existing works and their own compositions. Students will also study styles/eras of music that have been an important part of modern music history (ie Jazz, Funk, Soul, Punk) , as well as picking their own personal area of musical interest to complete a report on.
(This will serve as an excellent lead in to the new structure of VCE Music, 2023 - 2027)
- Creative Folio: A combination of recorded performances and compositions
- History of Music: A report on 2 - 3 important styles/eras of music
- DAW 101: How to perform and record with Ableton Live
- Musical Analysis: A study of a favourite musician/artist, style, or era.
