What is it and why should I do it?

Paint is a subject designed to introduce you to a range of painting techniques and help you develop skills in creating visual art using various mediums and styles. Throughout the unit, you will engage in hands-on activities, learn about the history of painting, study renowned artists, and deepen your understanding of the elements and principles of art. You’ll be encouraged to express your creativity, take risks, and explore your own artistic voice, while also building technical proficiency and a greater appreciation for the art of painting.

What will I do in class?

You’ll begin by familiarising yourself with the elements and principles of art, before exploring four major global cultural movements: premodernism, modernism, postmodernism, and metamodernism. Each assessment is broken down into multiple activities, which may include:

  • Exploring, responding to, and analysing the work of various artists and art movements
  • Studying the art elements and principles
  • Experimenting with different painting mediums
  • Practising colour mixing and palette creation
  • Developing brushwork and texture
  • Producing artworks
  • Participating in peer critiques and class discussions
