What is it and why should I do it?
In Music Style and Composition Units 3 & 4, students continue to explore ways sound can be organised in music to create expressive outcomes. Through critical listening, analysis and composition, students develop an understanding of ways music is organised, created and performed in a range of styles and traditions. Study of music works in diverse styles and traditions involves aural and visual analysis and consideration of the organisation and context of each work. Students’ analysis and knowledge of how composers use ideas, stimuli and creative processes becomes a starting point for creating their own music.
Students study three specific works throughout the year, including musical and compositional details as well as contextual issues relative to the work, composer, and era.
Students compose a range of their own musical works in both short and long forms.
How much homework/study will I have?
All Unit 3 and 4 subjects require 3-5 hours of study per week.
This will include spending time listening to and analysing unstudied music examples, completing research and analysis on set musical works, completing composition exercises, and general study of key language, terminology, and skills.
