Title of Work: Selfhood

Medium: Print

Selfhood is an investigation of how fashion creates identity for individuals, the community and on a global scale. Individually, fashion allows for people to create self-image and influence who they are, how they feel and how are they perceived. Fashion allows for exploration with gender identity and transformation of constrictive gender stereotypes. In the community, groups of people come together based on fashion and ideology to become subcultures, influencing the progress and identity of society. Fashion programs such as the Yarra Youth Services fashion program allow for people to come together, learn and create, working toward sustainable fashion practises and learning about the benefits of fashion. Fashion also impacts the functioning of the whole world. As fashion becomes more unsustainable it continues to impact the environment and threatens the livelihood of the globe, however fashion designers begin to adapt their practice to fit the sustainable need of the world.
