In this three-part work I develop the idea of the industrial nature of the human environment, highlighting our effect on the natural world through a representation of the Australian bushfires of early 2020. Furthermore, I critique the fixation of branding and marketing through the manipulation of the motif of a logo, which also serves as a ‘Hanko’, or signature for my work. Beige clouds seen in the first piece are a reference to the dystopian colour of the sky in Melbourne following the bushfires, the complimenting deep red background is reminiscent of photos taken within bushfire ridden towns, the colour red itself intrinsically associated with destruction. Throughout the year I have deconstructed the cubic shape and outline of buildings, the black curving shape seen in parts one and two are an allegoric motif for this, a representation of the industrial ‘system’ itself. I have chosen a large human scale for the works as it invites the observer to immerse themselves in the work. |
