develop an understanding of how perception and ways of seeing can enhance their ability to draw from through observation and express unique creative ideas. They will investigate past and present artists from various cultural backgrounds and perspectives.

 Students will develop a toolbox of drawing techniques, which they can use to solve issues that may arise independently during the drawing process. They will gain critical and analytical skills by examining artworks, reflecting on their work, and building their understanding and ability to apply art elements and principles to create finished drawings.

In this course, students will experiment with various drawing materials and techniques such as:

  • Oil pastel
  • ink
  • fine liners pens
  • graphite (grades of pencils)
  • charcoal
  • watercolour
  • resist techniques
  • gouache

be able to be creative through a study of the ‘SteamPunk’ movement in literature, film making, design and art. Students' will research SteamPunk as a genre, then produce objects with a SteamPunk theme by designing and making objects from a combination of unwanted, reusable, second-hand as well as new materials. This will be facilitated by working with metals and related materials found at home and at school.
