In this unit you will explore the notion of human rights, learn about the evolution of civil rights movements worldwide and study key historical events and influential figures. The first part of the unit examines the US Civil Rights Movement, considering the background to the movement, key events and important leaders. Then you shift our focus to Australia's Civil Rights Movement that has shaped our country today. Using the skills and knowledge developed in this unit, students will then conduct an independent inquiry, choosing a freedom movement from any part of the world. This course is designed to develop critical thinking, research, and analytical skills while fostering a deep understanding of the struggles and triumphs associated with the pursuit of justice, equality and freedom.
What will I do in class?
Throughout this subject students will use lectures, documentary studies, inquiry based student investigations and class discussions to get a clear understanding of the struggle for rights and freedoms in Australia and the world.
