What is it and why should I do it?

Fashion Recycled or Circular Fashion is where all people involved from the manufacturer to the consumer take responsibility for keeping clothing in a wearable state for as long as possible. Recycled or Circular Fashion is defined as clothes, shoes or accessories that are designed, sourced, produced with a goal of continued sustainability. Recycled or Circular Fashion's goal is to eliminate waste and re-purpose products and fibres into new fashion pieces.

What will I do in class?

Students will investigate the concept of Recycled Circular Fashion and explore how they can design and produce clothing without using new resources/materials. The aim is to divert clothing from ending up in landfill.

Students will explore different techniques for repairing clothing and textile products to extend the life of the product. As well as exploring the up-cycling, remaking or reusing of a textile product that is no longer useful in its present form and creating a new product. Students will need to supply their own clothing/textiles items to be repaired or recycled to complete their design productions.

There will be two written investigation tasks:

Task 1: What defines Circular Fashion and how it compares to the traditional linear fashion industry.

Task 2: Investigation a design label that represents the Circular Fashion business model.

This will vary according to the student’s interests.

Students will complete an investigation into the Fashion Industry and how it is responding to this global issue of over-consumption in fashion .
