What is it and why should I do it?

Graphic design involves Visual Communication Design is the art and practice of communicating visually. During In this study, you will produce examples of graphic design that respond to design briefs. You will explore design movements, considering factors that have impacted design decisions. This subject seeks to foster designers who have a critical and reflective eye, a refined aesthetic understanding, and who are equipped with the skills necessary to address design problemssubject you will explore Environmental Design, Product Design & Communication Design. You will use the Design Process to produce creative solutions that respond to design challenges.

What will I do in class?

The This subject involves a lot of independent work on practical design tasks and investigation/analysis on factors that impact design decisions.

You will :

  • Employ and document a design process based on the Double Diamond model
  • Learn how to manipulate type and imagery when designing for specific contexts, purposes and audiences
  • Combine manual and digital methods, media (with a focus on Adobe Illustrator) and materials with design elements and principles
  • Participate in critiques, both delivering and receiving constructive feedback
  • work on 3 projects using both hand drawing and digital design tools.

    1. Environmental Design: designing a studio apartment. You will make design decisions to create a functional environment within a confined space. Students will develop an architectural floor plan, side view elevations and a 3D rendering.
    2. Product Design: designing a piece of furniture for your studio apartment using isometric drawing conventions, and a variety of rending techniques to add visual texture to your image.
    3. Communication Design: creating typography solutions to explore brand and logo development.

    How do I satisfactorily complete this unit?

    All folio and design analysis work will be completed productively during class time. Students will use home time to allow for thinking and pondering of various design considerations for your projects, therefore no set home work if students work productively and effectively during class time.
