What is it and why should I do it?

What Over half of all Australians have a parent born in another country - what could make you pack up your life tomorrow and move to a new place? Students will explore how the media, historical factors, and political choices have shaped Australia's migration stories. 

It seems like an impossible choice, but over half of all Australians have a parent born in another country. So what made them leave and how did they move? Covers the geographical movements of people and groups across spaces and time. Explores the issues of asylum seekers/refugees/boat people and challenges that war and environmental change pose for Australia. This subject is recommended for those students interested in studying VCE Legal Studies, Modern History and Politics. 

What will I do in class?

Throughout this subject students will use lecturesdata analysis, documentary studies, inquiry based student investigations, guest speakers excursions and class discussions to get a clear understanding of Australia's migration history and the world.
