What is it and why should I do it?
Writing around the World invites students to explore stories, poetry, myths and ideas from across the globe, discovering how writing reflects culture, identity, history and human experience. Through the study of texts from Australasia, Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and South America, students will engage with a diverse range of voices and perspectives, from ancient myths and epic poetry to modern short stories and novels.
What will I do in class?
Students will analyse writing techniques and compare how writers from different cultures respond to universal ideas such as belonging, power, conflict, memory and identity. The subject also encourages creativity through poetry writing, short story composition and oral presentations. Wide reading and independent research tasks further encourage students to develop confidence as readers, writers and speakers while building a deeper understanding of writing as both an art form and a reflection of societies around the world.
How do I satisfactorily complete the unit?
Satisfactory completion of the course requires assessment in the following Reportable Learning Tasks:demonstration of skills and knowledge of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 Achievement Standards across the Strands of Literature, Language and Literacy. A variety of Reportable Learning Tasks will assess skills in speaking and listening, reading and writing.
