What is it and why should I do it?
Music Making is all about creating/composing and/or performing music and learning how to preserve it using digital recording processes. Students will work in small group or individual settings to develop a folio of musical recordings that will include covers of existing works and their own compositions. Students will study styles/eras of music that have been an important part of modern music history (ie Blues, Funk, Punk), as well as picking their own personal area of musical interest to complete a report on. Music Making is a great opportunity for students to explore, perform, create, and understand music across different times, eras, genres, and styles, without the pressure of needing to perform in a concert or gig-style setting.
Additionally, this subject will serve as an excellent lead to the range of options available in VCE Music. Specifically, students wishing to complete VCE Music Inquiry Unit 3&4.
What will I do in class?
Classes will be a mix of practical and workshop style settings, giving students the opportunity to learn and use digital recording equipment, practise/rehearse their instruments, and analyse important music recordings and performances.
How do I satisfactorily complete the unit?
Students will mostly complete project-based work, with expected assessment tasks as follows:
- Styles Folio: The study of 3 important styles/eras of music that includes a combination of recorded performances and compositions.
- Musical Influence:
- Presentation: A presentation to the class on a favourite musician/artist, musical style, or era, that has had a significant influence on you.
- Musical Work: The performance or composition of a musical work that reflects the chosen area of musical influence.
