What is it and why should I do it?

Art Creative Practice is a subject driven by the creative art-making process that evolves through self-directed student research that leads into experimentation with materials and processes that is enhanced and built upon with self-reflection. Sharing & presenting your ideas & creative work is also integral to your learning. You will be required to create finished artworks in both units 3&4. Unit 3 is designed to encourage inquiry and discovery whilst Unit 4 emphasises creation of a resolved Body Of Work.

We will have a weekly discussion & note-taking class in Unit 4 that will lead into a SAC assessment that prepares you for your end of year externally assessed exam.

What will I do in class?

In Art we devote 3-4 periods a week to our Creative Practice. You will be required to create finished artwork/s in both units 3&4 and you will also be documenting and evaluating the development of your artistic process. During unit 4, we will have a weekly discussion session & note-taking class that will form the content of our unit 4 written SAC that examines art of the past and the present to highlight changes & shifts in culture.

How much homework/study will I have?

All Unit 3 and 4 subjects require 3-5 hours of study per week.

Towards the end of unit 4, students will be required to complete their analytical essays for homework prior to sitting the SAC.

The completion of final artworks for each unit will also require additional time outside of regular classes.

What contributes to my study score?

Unit 3, Outcome 1 & 2: School Assessed Task (SAT) contributes to 30 per cent of the study score.

Unit 4, Outcome 1 & 2: School Assessed Task (SAT) contributes to 30 per cent of the study score.

This ‘SAT’(School Assessed Task)is theassessment of your finished artworks that have been developed through research and reflection in both units 3 & 4. The total score of the SAT across both units contributes to 60 % of your total study score.

Unit 4, Outcome 3: This SAC (School Assessed Coursework) is scored out of 30 points & makes up 10% of the total study score.

The end of year externally assessed VCE Art Creative Practice Exam contributes 30% to your final study score.
