What is it and why should I do it?

Food is the Future. So much of the world's future is dependant on what happens with Food, and you're going to explore what that means.

There is a lot happening around the world that is affecting food supply. Environmental, Political, Social, they all play a part. What is food going to look like in the future?

Food packaging is also changing. With the banning of single-use plastics in Australia, how will we continue to package food? What sustainable options are available, or yet to be created?

The future. That's what this subject is about, plain and simple.

Food is a subject that provides something for everyone, regardless of whether you are experienced in the kitchen or not. It is an appealing subject for everyone, especially for those who don't want to be sitting down writing every single session of the school day. We do both practical and theory classes, with most weeks resulting in you taking home something to eat.

What will I do in class?

Each week, there will be a combination of cooking and theory classes.

The recipes and kitchen skills you learn and develop will complement the research and learning you do into the future of food, both in Australia and around the world.

There will also be a focus on skills involved in the Design Process, and how this relates to Product Development.

How do I satisfactorily complete the unit?

To successfully complete Future Foods:

  • Be an active participant in both Cooking and Theory classes.
  • Complete the Learning Tasks*
    • Design and Produce a Food Product.
    • Design and Produce Food Packaging.
