What is it and why should I do it?
Studio Arts VCE Art making and Exhibiting allows students to develop an individual approach to art making across a wide selection of materials. An exploration proposal will provide a focused approach to the research of their personal ideas, subject matter, artists, conceptual possibilities and materials and techniques.Students consider how artists create work, how ides are used to create artworks, how artworks are presented to an audience, how artworks are preserved and students make their own work.
VCE Art Making and Exhibiting Studio Arts Visual Arts allows for an experimental approach to analogue and digital techniques using a wide variety of materials such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, drawing, ceramics and more.
Students will also research and write on the art practice of their chosen artists and look at artworks from different cultures and times. In Unit 4 they will visit galleries and develop an understanding of how the art industry functions.
How much homework/study will I have?
All Unit 3 and 4 subjects require 3-5 hours of study per week.

The completion of studio production and annotating your visual diary as well as producing final artworks will also require additional time outside of regular classes.
What contributes to my study score?
Outcome 1 & 2 in Unit 3: The ‘Design Process’ SAT 1 is your Exploration Proposal, Studio Production and Potential Directions that form the basis for you folio in Unit 4. This contributes to 30% of your final study score for Studio Arts.
Outcome 1 & 2 in Unit 4: The ‘Folio’ SAT 2 is your Finished Artwork, Studio Production and Reflection and Evaluation on your work. This contributes to 30% of your final study score for Studio Arts.

Outcome 2 in Unit 3: Extend - make, critique and reflect.
Outcome 3 in Unit 3: Connect - curate, design and propose.
Outcome 1 in Unit 4: Consolidate - refine and resolve.
Outcome 2 in Unit 4: Present - plan and critique.
Outcome 3 in Unit 4: Conserve - present and careOutcome 3: Unit 3 ‘Professional Art Practices and Styles’ SAC and the Unit 4 ‘Art and Industry Context’ SAC will each score makes that make up 10% of the total study Score for Studio Arts. This will form the study for the exam at the end of the year which is 30% of your final study score for Studio Arts.
How do I satisfactorily complete the unit?
To pass any VCE unit you need to demonstrate that you have met the Outcomes.
Unit 3
Outcome 1: Exploration Proposal. Prepare an exploration proposal that formulates the content and parameters of an individual design process, and that includes a plan of how the proposal will be undertakenCollect - inspirations, influences and images. This is developmental work in your visual arts journal, influences and experiments with materials.
Outcome 2: Design process. Present an individual design process that produces a range of potential directions, which reflects the concepts and ideas documented in the exploration proposalExtend - make, critique and reflect. This is when you will create artworks and critique artworks.
Outcome 3: Professional art practices and styles.Discuss art practices in relation to particular artworks of at least two artists and analyse ways in which artists develop their styles. Students will complete a series of essays and art analysis exercises for this outcomeConnect - curate, design and propose. For this you will plan an exhibition of the work of three artists.
Unit 4
Outcome 1: Production and presentation of artworksOn completion of this unit the student should be able to present two finished artworks based on selected and evaluated potential directions developed through the studio process, which demonstrate the application of materials and techniques, and the resolution of ideas and aesthetic qualities discussed in the exploration proposal in Unit 3Consolidate - refine and resolve. This is where you will complete at least one finished artwork.
Outcome 2: Evaluation
On completion of this unit the student should be able to provide visual and written documentation that identifies and evaluates the extent to which the artworks reflect the selected potential directions, and effectively demonstrates a cohesive relationship between the works.
Present - plan and critique. This is when you will present a critique of your own artworks.
Outcome 3: Conserve - present and care. This is where you will research conservation methods related to your own artwork.Outcome 3: Art Industry contexts
On completion of this unit the student should be able to compare the methods used by artists and considerations of curators in the preparation, presentation, conservation and promotion of specific artworks in at least two different exhibitions. Students may select artworks exhibited in public art galleries and museums, commercial and private galleries, university art galleries, artist run spaces, alternative art spaces, outdoor spaces and online gallerieshave created artworks, planned artworks in their Visual Arts journal, critiqued their own artwork and considered conservation methods.
