| Evin TuranThe theme of my artworks revolves around my cultural identity and the exposing of hidden, and often oppressed, indigenous cultural practices; both the beauty within the traditions and customs, and within the people themselves. I aimed to create a visual narrative through the physical natures of my culture, and especially how these are distinguished in the modern Kurdish diaspora, as a people with no national state. Hanging these on a white wall, I worked to portray this story using acrylic paint with an impasto medium on canvas for Artwork 1, Jina Kurd*, and oil paint on canvas and charcoal on canvas for Artwork 2, Mal U Welate Jina Kurd*. *Jina Kurd – Kurdish Woman *Mal U Welate Jina Kurd – The Home and The Country of The Kurdish Woman |
