‘Reflection’

Graphite on transparent paper and inkjet print

My work aims to encourage reflection on the nature of our relationship with our surrounding spaces and the natural world. Detailed images of various landscapes, with the focus being on a clear and defined horizon line have been used. A drawing on translucent paper has then been layered behind the image using a collage technique. The implementation of the drawings allowed for the visual presentation of an individual looking back at you from the landscape so as to better encourage reflection within my work. And the focus on the horizon line within the images allows for a consistent and linear presentation of my work.

‘connection’

Inkjet print with polaroid images

‘Connection’ is a body of work that explores the connection presented between the natural world as our surrounding space and us as the people who inhabit it. This work incorporates the use of digital and polaroid images, creating slight variations within image quality and colour saturation. This allows for added depth and perspective within the work. People and elements of people have been subtly incorporated by using similar colour palettes, so as to communicate the idea of the nature of our integrated relationship with our surrounding space. I have documented a range of subject matters, from the ocean, ponds, forests, and within an inside setting. Thus allowing me to present the idea of connection throughout a range of spaces

‘Kolenda and Siregar’

Digital Inkjet Print

My photographic work focuses on the battle between a skateboarder and the environment around them. As a skateboarder myself I was always interested in this idea, as I commonly observe skaters attempt to use the space around them in a sort of ‘fight for power’. During the year, using large spaces was no longer an option therefore I focused on things minimal compositions. The subjects, Jason Kolenda and Khalif Siregar, are two local Melbourne skaters who I believe fit the role that I was looking for perfectly and gave me more freedom to capture them in a more natural environment.
