Arni ArapakisStaring Man, Pencil on paper ART My pieces encapsulate my focus of uniqueness alongside the involvement of my eccentric aesthetic into elements of my Greek background/culture. The two drawings titled Staring Man and Staring Woman portray figures in traditional Grecian clothing. The facial structure and overall features were inspired by the mass produced townsfolk dolls in Greece. However, I wanted my work to not fall into being conventional, and so I cut the tie between gender and colour by doing whatever I thought needed to be added without considering what is believed to be masculine or feminine. Upon expanding my exploration in Unit 4, I intended to re-imagine the typical depiction of Zeus whilst continuing the combination of my style and my culture. Here, Zeus is seen in a more glamourous light to go against the traditional perception that he is the pinnacle of masculinity. Moreover, it seems that other portrayals of Zeus are usually dark and drab, therefore I attempted to contrast this with some incorporation of colour, though still alluding to classical Greek marble statues in the white sections of the painting titled Colourful Sight. |
| Angie Eldred'Wife'Inkjet printStudio Arts Photography This photographic series tells the story of a woman who is tired of her life as a housewife and tired of her perpetually disappointing husband. She poisons her husband in order to be free of the caregiving she is expected to undertake, for someone who doesn’t care for her. I drew inspiration from Film Noir style and settings. |
