Francesca Gallagher

Art

Mixed Media Installation

I set out to create a room. A space that reflected my exploration of consciousness, negativity, and the objects we discard. I wanted to expand on my ideas in unit 3, where I carved into discarded soaps, to painting my thoughts on to furniture, to create a scene. Allowing these objects to manifest the thought drawn onto them, creating a difference between the physical world and our consciousness world, or blurring the lines between the two. I used my personal thoughts and anxieties to make sense of the contemporary time, we live in. As I reference COVID-19 and various other universal moments in 2020. As the artwork itself is a private room that mirrors the self-isolation, we have all felt from lockdown. I continued to explore the idea of the stream of consciousness, in my own mind, by releasing it to the world, into this room. While also being able to reflect a collective consciousness, by using phrases and thoughts that we have all thought and experienced at one point.
