What is it and why should I do it?
You won't see this appear on your timetable as it is a combination of Railway House and Projects. It also includes compulsory work placement which you need to arrange yourself. You need to pass it to be eligible for a VCAL certificate.
What will I do in class?
Heaps! You will work at the Railway House on community projects every day. There is a roster and everyone takes turns in running the coffee machine, delivering donations, looking after the compost and garden, helping community members with their gardens or dog walking, washing cars, delivering leaflets and more. Some jobs you will get paid for and others we offer as a community service. You will be required to interact with all members of the Railway House community in a mature and respectful way. You will also run projects at school. Usually the class chooses the project and they vary from entrepreneurial ideas to fundraisers or solutions to school problems. These are student-led with teacher support and you are required to be organised, energetic and collaborative in order to see the project through to completion. You will also need to complete at least one week of work placement in an area that is related to your VET or SBAT.
How much homework will I have?
None. This is a hands-on course. Your work happens in class.
How do I satisfactorily complete the unit?
-You MUST pass your VET or SBAT course
-You must complete at least one week of work placement
-Keep your attendance above 80%
-Consistently receive a 'satisfactory' weekly report from the Railway House manager
-Pull your weight in the class projects
